About WeSellATour
A small tour company from Texas, with a silly name and serious itineraries.
It began with a borrowed van and a group text
For years, before there was a company, there was one person in our friend group who planned the trips. You know the type. They had the spreadsheet, booked the rooms, found the barbecue place with no sign out front, and made everybody leave at 6am to beat the crowds at the canyon. They were usually right about that last part.
The trips got bigger. Friends brought friends, then a church group asked, and then a lady we'd never met called and asked how much it cost to "come on the Big Bend one." That was when we realized we were running a tour company without the paperwork. So we did the paperwork.
The name started as a joke. Someone asked what we did, and somebody answered, "We sell a tour." It stuck, mostly because nobody could think of anything better. We've come around to it. It's honest. We put together a trip, tell you exactly what's in it, and sell you a seat.
Travel should feel like a trip with friends, not a tour bus
That means small groups. Our road trips cap at 11 guests and our flight trips at 16 at the very most. It means a real itinerary on the page before you pay, including the boring parts like which meals are included. And it means telling you the truth: that the northern lights might not show, that the Taj Mahal is closed on Fridays, that Mardi Gras involves more standing than you'd think.
The house rules
No surprises in the fine print
Every trip page lists what's included and what isn't, from the meals and the tips to the optional extras. If it costs money and it's not on the "included" list, we tell you roughly how much.
Small groups, every time
Small groups fit in the good restaurants, get into the small places, and get to know each other. Big buses can't do any of that.
Local people on the ground
We hire local guides wherever we go and spend money with local businesses. The best version of any place comes from the people who live there.
A person picks up
Call during office hours and you'll speak to someone who knows the trips, not a call center. On the trip, your leader's number works all day and all night.
We've done it first
We scout new routes before we sell them, and the leader writes a journal after every trip about what worked and what didn't. Then we change it.
Built for Texans
Departures from Texas cities, flights from DFW and Houston, and an understanding that a "short walk" means different things in July.
The people you'll actually meet
We're a small team. One of us is likely to be the one answering your call, and also the one counting heads at the airport.
Dana
The one with the spreadsheet. Has driven to Big Bend more times than is reasonable and still stops at the same overlook every time.
Ruben
Grew up in the Rio Grande Valley and runs our Mexico and South America trips. Will find you the best taco within a mile of any hotel.
Priya
Builds our international itineraries. Believes in early mornings at famous places and long, slow lunches everywhere else.
Marcus
Behind the wheel on most of our road trips. Keeps the cooler stocked and the playlist reasonable, and knows a lot about West Texas geology.
What we're not
We're not the cheapest. We could be, with bigger groups, worse hotels and shopping stops that pay commission. We'd rather not.
We're not a luxury operator. Our hotels are comfortable, clean and well located. Some are lovely and a few are quirky on purpose (looking at you, Route 66 wigwam). None of them have a butler.
We're not right for everyone. If you'd rather set your own pace every day, a group trip might not suit you, and we'll tell you so. We want everyone on the van to want to be there.
